Hello, I have a question for a first time chicken owner.

Do you have a brooder for them with a heat lamp?  Chicks can chill easily.  When they are fully feathered out,  they no longer need supplemental heat. .Best to stick with the chick starter,  when they are eating other things like bugs, or greens  they need grit .which they will get once they are outside.
Yes I got a heat lamp and thanks for the advice!

Hello, I can't find on how to make a new post. And I was wondering if chicks need dust baths? Thanks!

Hi, if you want to make a new post, - the question about dust baths, for example then do the following.

Go to Forum Nav at the top of this page (it currently says "New member introductions") and scroll down to the "Raising baby chicks" forum and click on it. Once you are on that forum, then click on the "Start a new thread" - icon and you have your own thread.

Hope that helps.

I only raise chicks with momma, and they sure like to copy her dust bathing, but whether its considered necessary for chicks in a brooder i am not sure. If you post your question there, i am sure the experts will help out.

Cheers
