Hello, I just joined today...

My boyfriend is back from download! yay! I asked him if Betsy is a Red Star and he said no :( she's a Warren, which wasn't on the breed list so I assumed she was a Red Star. She's very greedy and often chases cluck norris to get at whatever she's eating

Warrens and Red Stars are essentially the same bird--Red Sex Links chickens. Red Sex Link Chickens are produced by crossing a Red rooster (RIR, NH Red, or Production Red) with a White/Silver hen (RIW, White Rock, Delaware, or Light Sussex) thus producing chicks that can be sexed by color at hatching (boys are white, girls are red). They are sold by various hatcheries by a lot of different names such as Red Star, Warren, Brown Sex Link, Gold Sex Link, Cinnamon Queen, Bovans Brown, Isa Brown, Amberwhite, Amber Star, Shaver Brown, Babcock Brown, Golden Comet, Hubbard Golden Comet, etc., and while it can all sound very confusing, they are all Red Sex Links. There can be some variations in their temperaments depending on which white/silver hens are used, but they are all great layers of large, brown eggs.

Thanks, this was very helpful

Happy farming with your new chicks. We have 7 Road Islands and they are a hoot. Our love cherrios cereal, so if they wonder in the woods all I have to do is crinkle the bag and they come running. Which is funny in itself to see chickens run.. I think 2 of them think they're of goose breeds, they give us jumbo eggs. :)
