I am new to owning chickens. I just got my chicks last Saturday, and I already have fallen in love with them.
I have 6 black Australorp chicks all supposed to be pullets, but I think I might have a roo or two!
Raising chicks for the first time is such a challenging and rewarding learning experience!Thank you so much for the info. I am still trying to understand my new flock. They are a little over 2 weeks old. They are definitely flying a lot and are rambunctious!! I love how funny they can be when they are playing like that.
Thank you for the link. I am still concerned about her. I just got back from my kids 4H meeting and a friend of ours said she would have culled her right away. I guess I am not as seasoned as her. I feel bad for the little girl.
Love in the same coop instead of boat!I'm in the same boat...or coop, as you. I suspect 2 of the 6 of my chicks are boys. Don't think my neighbors would appreciate if I keep roos. Plus, I'm no expert, but wouldn't they fight all the time? Kids won't be happy if boys have to find a new home. Don't think I'll be happy if they end up on the table.
Me too, its so weird because she acts just like the other chicks. Flys, eats, drinks and even pushes the others around like they do to each other! LolRaising chicks for the first time is such a challenging and rewarding learning experience!
I'm glad you started another thread for your chick. Deciding whether to cull or not is a personal choice that not everyone agrees on. You're doing great trying to help her and I hope she responds to your treatments and can make a full recovery.![]()
