do you have garage, barn? it would be better. you have to have electric.   it just depends on the brooder. is it predator proof? out of the wind and heavy enough nothing can get into it or knock it over. scare them. ect....

I have a shed for now, but we are about to move to a new place and it's only like half done cause we have to wait for add ons and such. But I think we are going to build a coop. It'd make a good, fun project. I suppose we could run an extension to wherever the coop is. One alado been told having the heat lamp in there would be suitable.

Hi, Melanie, very frequent cleaning will help with the odor control. I don't like to brood chicks indoors because of the feather dust/dander and odor. An enclosed, predator safe coop with a heat lamp is what I use.

So much advice! Well, I have picking up my coop from a friend of mine whose mom builds them. I'll still be building my own, this one will just be temporary. I was getting medicine for my sick chick today, and saw that they had Silkies. I couldn't resist! I wound up getting a baby Silkie and a CoChin. They are so tiny compared to the big babies!
