So hello everyone let me intrigued myself I've kept rescued chickens for years and down to only one chicken now ! But have 8 ducks one runner is sitting on her eggs and one has hatched today Very excited but scared I might mess up too I have sectioned off the area of all the others so it's safe for mum and babies , I was thinking about taking them from her and looking after them under a lamp etc . But then thought I would let nature take its course but we do have rats around now and again so I'm worried about that and I've bought the feeders and water container for when they start to feed I keep peeking at mum but she wants to be left alone so should I leave her to it ? Sorry I've always rescued my ducks and never bred before so many questions ! I thinking this is an amazing site that helps a lot of people
Thanks

Welcome to BYC.

I would just let mom take care of things they have been doing it a lot longer than us.

Just keep an eye on how things are going. Keep mom and babes secure and separated for the other like you have done. Make sure they can't climb into any thing with water in it chick waterers work good for a couple weeks then you can make a homemade water for them. Take a butter or cool whip container cut a hole or holes in the top just large enough for ducklings to stick their heads in enlarge as they grow. Place a rock or stones in the bottom to keep them from tipping it over.

Let us know how it's going.

Congrats on first duckling.

I know nothing about ducks, but with my chickens, the girls have handled everything, just as Miss Lydia recommends.

Welcome to the forum, look forward to seeing photos of the babies down the track, when mum will let you take some.
