Hah, great story, Bulletproof. With the events the way they were, it sounds like it was the perfect situation. It almost makes me want to add a rooster to my flock. I'll have to go find a dissatisfied, multi-rooster owning farmer first!

Yeah, it worked out very well. I hear that some roosters can be bullies, but he's sweet as can be with the hens. If I toss in kitchen scraps, for example, he'll find the best bits and call hens over for it without eating it himself. They come to his call and he drops it and backs away to let them eat it.

These two chicks are his offspring, hatched a few days ago.
