Am new to the whole chicken experience. I was given 2 chicks a week after easter. I bought a few more after that so they would have some friends. All egg laying hens but they where unsure what kind they were. Now they are pullets I have a much better idea what they are. I do believe I have 2 red longhorns, 2 easter eggers, and 4 golden sex links. All happy hens, however, the one leghorn which is much larger then the rest squawks at the crack of dawn. I get up early with them and let them out but she she still does it, now the other leghorn has followed her lead. I'm not too happy with squawking at 6 am. My neighbors are aware that I have hens for eggs and I assured them I did not have a rooster. I don't want to give them a reason to complain or to be angry with me. Please help me! I want to maintain a perfect balance of my go-green life style with not upsetting my neighbors. What is the best possible solution? I don't want the others to follow. Help!!

Welcome to BYC. First, you might post some photos of your birds so we can see what you have.
Secondly, there's no quiet chickens, in my experience. Some are noisier than others, but quiet chickens is a misnomer, really. If you think pullets are loud, a large fowl, adult rooster can sometimes be heard up to a 1/2 mile away.

Again, welcome to the forum.

Are you absolutelysure that they are pullets? Such behavior is more typical of cockerels.

Here are a few. I have one more of each on the lower perch The one Standing is my Squawker
Here's another picture of my Alpha Hen

They are pretty quite all day its just the one in the am. They are not back to back they are few minutes apart. Maybe she's telling me something like my dog. lol

This is why I requested photos.

Those are production reds. A semi-commercial strain of Rhode Island Red. If your sounds begin to turn into a distinct crowing? You'll know you've got a cockerel on your hands. The one in question is either a very early maturing pullet who would be the "boss of everyone" kind of thing, or, although it isn't entirely clear from the photo angles, you've got a cockerel who is just warming up. That giant comb and those wattles are sobering.

Sorry hun, but that is for sure a rooster! His comb and wattles are huge and I am sure he is trying to crow, mine sounded like a squeaky toy for a few days before he started getting the crowing down. So sorry...

This isn't about the gender of your birds, but I notice you have chicken wire on your run. Chicken wire keeps chickens in but does nothing to keep predators out. Hardware cloth is most effective for protecting your flock.
