Hello I'm really an accidental chicken lady

Greetings and welcome to BYC! So glad you joined us. There's a wealth of info, knowledge and experience shared in the multitude of threads. Browse around and see what interesting stuff you can find. By all means post away when the desire strikes you, especially if you have questions (provide as much detail/info as possible and pictures truly help)... With all the great folks here, generally someone will respond in no time at all. I have to agree with animals as "decompression" tools. They always lower my blood pressure... except when they don't ;) Please make yourself at home!

Oh, if you haven't done so already, PLEASE put at least your general location in your profile. It could be very important if/when you ask for or offer help or advice. You know, climate issues and such. Old folks like me :old will never remember from this thread. To add it, mouse hover over Account top right and a drop down will appear. Click on Personal Details and scan down. You'll see the spot for Location. Then go to the bottom and save changes.

Watch out for chicken Math!

Welcome to backyard chickens!

I'm there already LOL... As it is I went to collect two yesterday, came home with three, I couldnt leave her, she is in appalling condition as is most likely a major health risk to my flock, she's fully isolated, medicated and I scrub and change my clothes after handling this one and the two that came with her are under the same precautions. There must have been 300 birds running around in squallor, many many with chicks as well :( not to mention the stentch of death! So sad.

Do your chicken work in order: work with the healthy flock first and then work with the sick hen. Try to never go from the sick one to the healthy one. Scrubbing is good but you need to disinfect the soles of your shoes too. Scrubbing is always a good thing to do too.

I wear a pair of crocks for the backyard chickens and have loafers for the ones in the Garage when I need to have them there.

100 percent last. I wont need to tread in their coup more than once a day, food and medicated water I can take care of from the side of the coup without entering. I only need to address their legs once a day and one has perfect legs but I've treated her in any case. I always begin with the chicks and end with the hens in any case, I learned that trick on advice with the first chicks I raised :)
