Hi! I'm Sabrina, and I live in the smack dab middle of Nebraska. Our house is full of life, with myself, my husband, and our 10 year old daughter. We've got two dogs, Pete, a dachshund, chihuahua, pit bull mix, and Maddie, a lhasa apso, shihtzu, terrier mix.

I work full time in finance, but would like to leave it all behind and start a homestead. This is our first step. We purchased nine chicks yesterday. Six silver laced wyandottes, and three gold laced.

I'm also plotting out the garden as we speak. I've got 50 ft by 25 feet for the chickens to roam during the early season, before things start to flower.

Hello Sabrina and welcome to BYC. Congrats on your new flock.

Here’s a link to the Articles section - https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/ There you’ll find lots of information on almost every aspect of keeping chickens - from coop building ideas, to incubating eggs.

There’s a link on the page above to the Learning Centre - it’s a great resource. If you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

Each week, various topics are discussed, which can also be a great resource - https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/topic-of-the-week-thread-archive

Hi Sabrina, it's nice to have you here! Congratulations on your new little flock...be sure to take lots of photos, those little balls of fluff don't stay small very long. Do you have their coop ready?

It's been ordered, but hasn't arrived yet. We've got a storage shed that we will put them in until the coop gets here. I've got a heater and a heat lamp for them. At this very moment, they are hanging out in my kitchen.

I put them int a tote, inside a kennel so the cat can't get to them...I failed to mention Rocky earlier... He's 6 months old or so, and so very interested in the noise.

Glad you're here !

A must have for your poultry is a FIRST AID KIT for any issues that would arise. (https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/suggestions-for-a-first-aid-kit.1150128/)
It's definitely better to have it and not need it rather than need it and not have it.

Also, make sure your coop(s) have a proper amount of VENTILATION. (https://www.backyardchickens.com/ar...-there-and-cut-more-holes-in-your-coop.47774/) Your chickens will absolutely thank you for it!

One last thing, if you're into gardening, feel free to join this years SEED SWAP (https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/seed-swap.1220129/)
