Hello just wanted to introduce myself

The goats in your profile photo... are they kids? Or is that how big Nigerian dwarf goats are when they're grown?

These are pictures that I just took of my buck (white one) and oldest female (black and brown with horns). I took the picture sitting down on the ground to give some sort of reference.

Great! Thanks for those!

My eight-year-old daughter loves animals, and she has proven herself responsible and committed with chickens and more recently with quail. I'm planning on getting her rabbits next, but I'm always looking down the road a little further and to something a little bigger.

Goats? Maybe. But I'll have a lot of research to do before then.

Greetings and welcome to BYC! So glad you joined us. Thanks to you & your DH for serving. Congrats on retirement! I know you just got here, but you should consider the sister sites as well. There's a great group of goat folks over on BYH. There's a wealth of info, knowledge and experience shared in the multitude of threads here also. Browse around and see what new & interesting stuff you can find. By all means post away when the desire strikes you, especially if you have questions (provide as much detail/info as possible and pictures truly help)... With all the great folks here, generally someone will respond in no time at all. Please make yourself at home!

Hope you enjoy the site!

Hi,

I have been stalking this site for over a year. I look through posts new and old to help me with my hobby farm. I am a retired Army nurse. I am married my husband is a retired Army medic. We have two children a 7 yr old boy and 3 yr old girl. We moved to Florida at the end of my time and bought 5 acres in order to raise animals for ourselves. We have all kinds of animals we have a pair of Cane Corso dogs, a pair of miniature donkeys who have given us our first baby (her name is Sugar and she lives up to that name), we have a small heard of Kathadin sheep, a small heard of Nigerian dwarf goats, 3 Kune Kune sows and a few Potbelly sows, 3 male bunnies of different breeds. As far as poultry we have 6 total Bourbon red turkeys, a small flock of mixed breed ducks, a small flock of Toulouse geese, a few bantams, a small flock of Americanas( yes I know they got me, lol), a small flock of buff Orpingtons and some other random roosters we left free to roam. I do t really do much outside of family and farm. I grew up around farm animals in Puerto Rico and my husband has a live of animals which is why we decided to start a mini farm. Well I think that sums me up pretty good. I’m looking forward to picking your brains publicly and not just lurking in the shadows.
Being new myself, I won't be much help to you. But, welcome to BYC. The people here are very nice and helpful.

I must admit that goats are a ton of fun even the adults are all young at heart and mine are a mess my buck is supper nosy and wants to be included in everything. His life’s goal seems to be to find a way to get on top of our barn. I think it would be fun for a child just give them a goat park and sit back and enjoy. Just watch out for bloat but that’s easily fixed with some baking soda. And as with all animals good quality species specific feed is a must.
