Hi Everyone,
I thought I'd say hello. I'm a new chicken owner, and pretty excited about it. We bought our 8 pullets about 5 weeks ago. They are between 17-19 weeks old. We have 1 blue orpington, 1 buff orpinton 1 double laced barneveder, 1 black maran, 3 auracana, and the last one I was told is a partridge rock (from the breeder) but it looks like a splash orpington to me.... I dont really know, just going by google..... I told the breeder I wanted them all to look very different from each other, lay a variety of coloured eggs and be cold hardy (we are in southern Ontario). They have bonded really nicely and I dont see any aggressive behaviour from anyone, which is great!

We've recently moved from the city to this amazing rural property, so my chickens are living the good life. They have a nice big barn all to themselves (for now) and the run of the orchard, and forest. (they seem to like it in the forest best).

We just built their nesting boxes last week, but so far I haven seen anyone paying any attention to them. I've put straw in them, and one of those hand painted Ukrainian eggs in each nest. Hoping sometime soon they will show some interest.

They have (finally) started to eat from our hands just this week. My kids are loving that.
We have 3 small kids and the chickens are a pretty exciting addition to our family and the first real members of our new homesteading lifestyle.

Hoping to maybe get a few goats and a pig next year. Maybe some bunnies. We'll see.
Anyways, its nice to be here... Im hoping to meet some chicken friends and learn a thing or two.

Cheers!
