We just recently jumped into this new exciting world of chicken ownership. We picked up a variety of 6 chicks a few weeks ago. They are all doing great in their brood and growing like weeds. we need to work on curing their boredom at 3 weeks +. But other than that they are happy and healthy. Thanks for the add to your wonderful group.

A couple of things I used in my brooder were:
* 4" round plastic pipe...the chicks loved running through it & jumping on top
* Hung an old CD from the lid that they enjoyed pecking at

Hope you're having fun with the chicks!

They also like practicing roosting on a real tree branch. Some chicks will push around a small colored ball. If they are busy, they aren't pecking at each other - which is great!

Welcome to the Backyard chickens flock.

Hi and welcome to BYC - great that you have joined us. You have some great ideas - tree branches are great as it teaches the chicks to roost = no roost training when they get into the coop!
