Hello New to site, new to chix

I never thought I would have chickens....most of my friends think it’s hysterical, so neither did they! But the girls are fun! I’m sure I’ll enjoy it more once I know what I’m doing and stop worrying.

We have 6 girls, not laying yet. 2 Rhode Island Reds, 2 Barred Rocks and 2 Easter eggers. I think.

They were 10 days old when we brought them home, all fluffy. We brooded them for about 5 weeks and started putting them in the coop/run during the day. Well, I was able to bring them back inside twice. They carried on so much and it was warmer than 60 degrees at night and they had most of their feathers. So I piled bedding in the nesting boxes and they’ve been out there ever since. I miss them being close by and ready for cuddles but I don’t miss the smell! No free range yet-our yard is fenced and they’ll only be out in the evening when we are home, but I still want to make sure they are big enough to teach a lesson to anything foolish enough to get by me.

Looking forward to the wealth of information here. So much to learn!

Welcome! I'm having very similar experiences myself this year. Mine get free range time in the evenings some when it's cool enough for me to stay outside with them - and my daughter's Siamese is fascinated by them and hangs out with them like he's trying out to be a Livestock Guardian Cat.
