(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I was in 4-H my whole life. Had many animals. I am now 26 and married. We recently added 12 hens to our family. ( about 3 months ago or so)All egg laying.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now? 9...which I how I found you guys.

(3) What breeds do you have? Not sure. A random flock of beautiful girls

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I like to build things. Play in my yard. Raise my 3 year old into a warrior.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I am married to my high school sweetheart. We have a 3 year old little girl named Lily. Our fat Olde English Bulldog named Tequila, who loves our chickens and 2 cats..Oliver & Alex, who are kind of a**holes. I suburban homestead and doomsday prep...im still new to it. Slight conspiracy theorist. My husband is a gamer. My daughter is one with nature.

That is indeed our daughter. She was a micropreemie born at 27 weeks and weighed 2 pounds. She will be 4 in december. We homeschooling/unschooling her to allow her to chase what she desires. Today we lost 3 girls to our neighbor's dog. 2 are severely injured and another is pretty beat up. We had 12 starting the day out...now down to 9 and possible down to 6 or 7 by the morning. I'm really torn up about it. That's how I found you guys. I noticed not many talk about what happens when they die....unfortunately the dog bites make them inedible. Such a sad waste. They will be buried tomorrow....hopefully the others last through the night and I will be cleaning their wounds and separating the injured in the morning.

It sounds like your daughter is a little miracle! I homeschool as well (my son is 16 years old). Thinking back to when he was 3 or 4 makes me miss those days!
I’m So sorry to hear about your chicken loss...it’s never easy no matter how many you have. Hopefully the remaining injured ones will heal and pull through. A lot of the time they are very resilient and bounce back. Here is one inspiring story/thread that I’ve followed recently:
https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/chicken-neck-attack-help.1198490/
The thread got to be pretty long but it’s an amazing timeline of this chicken that had severe injuries and managed to survive!
Keep us posted on how your remaining chickens do and if you have any questions just ask.... there are tons of knowledgeable people on here that I’m sure would be more than happy to help!
