You are not the only "mad chicken person".

When we got new chickens we would chicken wire in a spot around a dog house for a while, until both sides got used to each other. Then, we would let them interact.

Thanks guys, TwoCrows I posted a reply quoting you and I've been diverted to the moderator...I'm such a forum noob lol. I didn't do anything naughty, honest.

Anyway thank you and to Kelsie, yes giving in is the only option as I see it . A second coop for those little medical hiccups and somewhere for the newcomers sounds sensible. I was going to do it anyway, I just needed the professional validation and an excuse to get more coops. And chickens.

You will get used to these forums. There is a lot here on BYC to learn!

Oh...your addiction is FAR worse than mine, having a chicken in your kitchen! LOL I have to sneak mine in side the house if I need to do any work on them so no one finds out!

Years ago I DID have a quail hatching addiction and just couldn't stop hatching! The incubator never cooled off for a few years and I had quail coming out of my ears! So the aviaries just kept going up until I was ordered to STOP!!!

LOL....I think I went into post hatching depression after that.

Hmmm.....I think I have some chicken eggs and no broody hen....better go dust off the bators!!

Good luck with your ventures!

And that is how it starts, already have you thinking two coops is a good idea, three will be next, and yes, this forum seems to be completely populated by chicken enablers... some of them even do double duty like TwoCrows who is also a quail enabler at times (they are sooo cute).
Not sure if you have seen it, but there is a great article in the Learning Center about figuring out how many chickens your main coop space might work with https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/how-much-room-do-chickens-need

I built a large coop and then got around to building a permanent brooder box in it. When the new baby chicks were 4 weeks old I put them in the big girl coop (in the coop's brooder box). Next week they will be 8 weeks old and get to join the flock. This will be my fist time integrating new chicks so I hope all goes well. Ive read a lot on the subject. I am hopelessly addicted and currently have 34 chicks; 7 cockerel and the rest are pullets. I plan to toughen up so I can butcher the cockerels in November. For me, I believe it is part of owning chicks. Look at this awesome brooder box with nesting shelves built below, inside a coop. I came across this after I'd built my brooder box. Awesome way to take advantage of the vertical real estate in your coop.
