Hi, my name is Fiona & I've had layer hens for 5 years. We recently acquired what I thought were pullets.. (1 broiler Cornish & 2 reds). Everything is screaming to me this 13 week old is a rooster. Im just looking for confirmation from my fellow chicken keepers please :)

Hello Fiona, and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Yes. He's a cockerel.
Did you just get one meat bird to see if you could process it on your own?
Hi, thank you for your reply. We live in France and my request from the poultry lady got lost in translation! We got 2 white & 2 reds from her, we've processed 1 Cornish already and the next this week. One of the reds is identical to my other red layers, but this one is very different! I've suspected a cockerel for a while, but this week Im convinced :)

All the long, pointed saddle feathers in the circled area are the easy tell. They are male specific. Females will always have shorter, fat, rounded saddle feathers.

How did the processing go? Was it your first time? I've always wanted to raise meat birds but haven't for a variety of reasons. Processing is the main one.
