hello reality! MY CHICKS ARE HERE! with a few problems and questions

well, one of them was near death, and now after giving him water and making sure he's not too cold i can barely tell him from the others. h still needs some love though.

another has what looks like a deformed leg. really swollen, curled up and she can't move it on her own. her leg is fine, she gets around just as well as the other. spends 90% of her time inside the food dish. no signs of pain at all, i can move all her limbs and such and she doesn't complain. she does look like she's trying to say "hey, put me down! i want to eat some more!!!"

i made her a little show/booty and straightened out her toes. she doesn't look like she cares at all, she just sits in the food dish eating away. does the foot problem have anything to do with her being a dark Cornish game? or is it just the cornish broilers that get the leg problems.

anyhow, I think the one with a deformed leg is going to be just fine with the proper care. the weak little Egyptian fayoumi is doing better, but i will be checking on her every 5 minutes or so to see how she's doing. i think she will make it

and something funny about the black star chicks and my boyfriend, Nick! he was asleep when they got here. i brought a little black star down to him and put it on his upper chest. in his sleep he put his hand over it and cuddled it a bit to keep it warm. she took a nap. he woke up in shock saying "IS THIS A CHICKEN?"

he has since claimed all of the black sex links. they are his now. he is even giving them names!

really? we didn't even live here then. was it in the summer? stinky place to be in the summer. dead spawned out salmon baking in the dark mud flats during low tide.

I am so excited! I have bought some Jersey Giants from Maria Hall. I am so excited! I can't wait to get them! I love Jersey Giants. They are such a sweet breed.

I am sorry to say that my one little silver phoenix roo died in my arms

he was doing JUST FINE! eating, drinking, peeping just like the others, and then suddenly he lost all of his energy. i picked him up and held him, and he silently drifted off to sleep. no more heartbead or breathing but a limp corpse. i held he poor dear until he becamein a bit stiff. he has a little grave with his own tiny gravestone. i just wrote "little baby chicken" on it because he hadn't earned a name yet

the other little chick that was in poor health is doing better. he stands on his own and takes food & water when i offer it. he still hasn't opened his eyes? he keeps them closed. he does have more energy and chirps often enough for me to know he's okay.

February --- on our way to King Salmon --- the Chinook Winds brought the temp up to just above freezing

my dad was taking me and my brothers caribou hunting

i miss Alaska --- very awesome place to be ... i miss the king salmon fishing in the summer --- camping out on the beach ... fresh caught salmon baking on the fire pit ... good times

That's exciting! When are you expecting them?

She usually ships them out either on Tuesday or Wednesday. She said that she will let me know when they ship. It will be sometime this week. We are already preparing for their arrival. I am so excited. There aren't many of the Jersey Giants in our area.

another one died, it was the sickly one. he is buried with the other. i called Mc Murray and they gave me a refund.

oh well, better to loose two rather than all, right?

the one with a deformed foot is doing fine. his bad foot looks completely normal now aside from being slightly smaller and pointed inward a bit. he is really REALLY cute, but he is one that we intend on eating. hopefully i can convince my mom that "lil gimpy" is worth keeping because of his cute little story

oh-and shaggy! i've only fished for kind salmon ONCE. it was great! i was like 11 and that thing was bigger (and heavier) than me!!!

since then i've only fished for kings commercially. Dillingham is a dull place to live for a long time, but i can see how a visit would be fantastic
