Hi all, I have recently acquired some Australorp chickens. i have been making there coop and designing there run.
this site has been a lot of help and full of great ideas and info.

I will post some pictures of the girls as they grow and might be able to get some help on seeing if they are pure australs?

There home is coming along nicely with new ideas every day.
Nice to meet you all.

Hi Australton and welcome to BYC

. How old are your Australorps? We have 5 and they will be 10 weeks old on Tuesday. They are supposed to be great layers. Good luck with your birds.

Thank you Chickenhound. I have 2 hens and 1roo. not sure of there age? I bought them at a local chicken auction and has no info (this is why i ended up with a rooster :(. )

I hope over the next couple of weeks i can find out more with posting photos here and comparing against others. My best guess is 15-20 weeks? i plan to add to the flock but they look like a good start.

Be careful when adding to the flock. New birds should be introduced gradually. They should be around the same size as the existing flock as well. Good luck!

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

You will love your Aussies! Very docile friendly birds and great layers too! Give them a good exam all over for mites, lice or anything else that might cause them to ail. Auctions can be knows to sell you unhealthy stock. Definitely post pics when you get the chance.

Great to have you aboard and welcome to our flock!

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

Yes, BA are a great breed! You won't be disappointed! Like Two Crows said, be sure to check for parasites and diseases when they arrive home.

G'day, and welcome to BYC! Australorps are my favorite standard breed; very hardy, calm and gentle, and excellent layers of large, brown eggs. Looking forward to seeing your pics. Good luck with your Australorps.
