Hello,
Thanks for the add. We just added our 1st chickens to our family. We let our 3 kids (ages 9, 11 & almost 14) pick 16 month old pullets from a local nursery. Being new to chickens, we allowed our 2 youngest chose runts. After about 2 weeks, we lost 1. They are now about 20 weeks old. The 2nd runt, who normally is quite full of energy, has been a little sluggish the past 2 days. My daughter noticed he had gone "poo". I went in to investigate as I am worried he is sick or dying. It was about the size of a nickle. Pic was taken an hour or 2 afterwards. Any ideas?

Hi and welcome to BYC. I'd suggest posting your question in the "Emergencies, Disease, Injuries and Cures" section.

In the meantime, the Learning Centre is a great resource, even for experienced chicken keepers - loads of info on anything chicken. https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

Joining your state thread (just type your state in the search box) will also put you in contact with other BYC members in your area.

The members here are amazing - very friendly and helpful, so if you need an answer to a question or simply want some reassurance that what you are doing is ok, then post away - we all help each other out here at BYC.

All the best

I hope your chick is ok. How is everyone else doing?

The non-runt hen (Miss P) seems to be doing well. We still have The chicks in their indoor brooder. Miss P is a Dominique. She was very motherly to the runt hens. I worry how she will do if we lose another. She will b alone. The chicks have a few weeks before we will add them to the coop.
A friend of mine thought MAYBE the runt (Johncina) might be sluggish as she is nearing egg laying time. Maybe that was an early egg?? I've bn trying to find pics to compare.
