Morning

I’ve just joined!

My broody silky hatched 3 polish eggs. 1 normal and 2 of them are frizzles (one looks bearded which is exciting)

Any polish frizzle experts out there? What do you think I’ve got.

Ta Hannah

Good morning @HannahHenLady

Welcome to BYC!

Sexing Polish can be tough. In my experience it is easiest when then are only a day or 2 old. Do you have pictures of them when they just hatched. Specifically of the head poofs. Round, even, head poofs usually means hens. Oblong and angled head poofs mean boys.

The same holds true as they grow but not everyone's head poof grows at the same rate.

How old are the youngsters in these pictures?

I have 2, 10 week olds right now that both appear to be pullets but you can see the difference if how their poofs are coming in.

Nimue's is nice and smooth.

Niamh's is crazy. Much less organized.

These photos were taken at 9 weeks old.

I also had a frizzled Polish at one point named Betty. She was a real sweetheart. You have some great chickens there.

Here they were as chicks. Notice their head poofs are round and cylindrical.

Once they get older you are still looking for round head poofs. You did need to remember that even the ladies have mullets as adults.

Nimue has a great flowing mullet just like this adult hen Phyllis. But it remains round.

Conversely, here is a young cockerel, Versace, who has a blockier poof.

I have also found that pullets will hold their tails up proud like Phyllis in her photo and cockerels will more often hold them flat or let them droop. You can see Nimue and Niamh are also holding their tails up.

Another clue is the shape of the end of the trail feathers. Are they rounded or not? Boys tend to be pointy and girls should be rounded. However, feather determination can be difficult with frizzles.

Versace's tail feathers really give him away in this photo.

Bear in mind that everything is have told you gives you indications of their sex. None of this is 100%. Fortunately Polish are easier to sex than silkies but without combs it can be a little more difficult than other breeds.

If you post more photos of yours I will be happy to give an opinion.
