I am new to this board and have a few years experience keeping chicken.

I have a medium-sized flock of around 35 chickens and around 20 ducks and 2 geese. The chickens are primarily egg layers: golden comets, rhode island reds, barred rocks, a few bielefelders and 3 saipan jungle fowl. With respect to meat birds, I am trying cornish cross, freedom rangers and silver/kosher kings.

I live on a small (5 acre) farm in Florida and enjoy gardening, fishing and learning more about sustainable agriculture. I have 2 dogs, 2 cats and two potbelly pigs.

I totally agree! They have really gentle personalities and are so trusting. We had a thunderstorm rip through the area on Monday and when I came out to check on them they came running up to me and wanted to stay near me for reassurance/protection.

Great! I am about to buy geese.... What breed do you have?

I'm not sure. I got them as goslings free from a woman who said they had been an "impulse buy" and wanted to rehome them. I have them now with my ducks in a nice pond on the property. They may be embden (?)
