Hello!

It's fine to get a different breeds, I have a flock of 17 and in it is about 7 different breeds. What breeds were you thinking on getting?

I also have 17 chickens with about 7 different breeds lol...

Ok - the deed is done! We now have three hybrids settling nicely (I think!) into the rough-and-ready coop and run I've built.

They're already showing quite a bit of character, with the Boss Chicken plotting her escape admirably; the other two following her lead by jumping onto the coop's roof from which they can leap into the Narnia which is next door's garden. I'm surprised at how tame they're getting already: a bit of corn and they're eating out of the boys hands and it's proving not too hard to tempt them into where we want them to go.

They poo a lot, don't they?

Update: how much fun is this?!

The gingers have settled in well. There were a few attempts at escapology for a few days, but we've now clipped wing feathers (thanks, youtube!) and reinforced the fenced area and they now scratch around happily where we want them.

Their names are (brace yourself) Korma, Kiev and McNugget and I'm surprised at how tame they're getting. They all look EXACTLY the same, but I swear you can tell them apart by how they act and behave. Reading on another thread, someone said 'Chickens are so funny, aren't they? Who says they are dumb and have no personality?'. I never thought I'd find myself agreeing.

No eggs yet though.

A few weeks on... all good! They've got so tame that it's like having puppies around, and we're getting 2 or 3 lovely eggs evey day - even with the days getting cooler and shorter they've not slowed down laying yet. The boys are having great fun - when they go into the garden three hens run up to them demanding attention (ie. food) :D
