Hi I'm interested in chickens because I really like birds my mom and I are going to get chickens soon. I have hatched two chicks before and since I incubated only three eggs that's pretty good the last one died in its egg from a power outage.:jumpy

It would probably be smart to order online from a hatchery.
Really it depends on what you are raising them for. Eggs, meat, or just fun pets.
For pets I woul go with silkies, they are amazing and loving and tiny too so you can have more of them than large breeds.
For eggs, I would go buff Orpingtons, or barred rocks
For meat I would go jersey giant or brown leghorns.

Welcome!

You might want to say hello on your local thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/26/where-am-i-where-are-you ‘Find your State’s thread.

I also recommend a visit to the Learning Centre; lots of good tips there: https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

Good luck with your venture.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun. Unlike non chicken loving friends, family and colleagues, BYC’ers never tire of stories or pictures that feature our feathered and non feathered friends
