My name is Kathryn. I have four nearly two year old ladies (Pip, Bibi, Duck and Petra) plus two 2-month olds (Siena and Asha).
I live in San Diego. I've had chickens since the four 2-year old hens (2 Ameracunas (?) 1 Barred Rock and ...I don't remember the last one's breed) were 1-day old chicks. The two babies are both Ameracunas because I am hoping for a blue egg. We got chickens in part to entertain our 3 year old Anatolian Shepard, who are livestock guardians, to give him a job to do. He's not, as it turns out, terribly keen on guarding the hens, (he thinks it's beneath him), but he is very good with them, including the babies.

G’Day from down under Kathryn :frow Welcome!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

You might want to also Find Your State Thread and pop in and say hello.

Personally, I have found the Topic of the Week articles a great resource and a one stop shop for questions which may have already been discussed within the BYC membership group.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock or AS, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

Hello Kathryn, :welcome
Glad you joined us! I love Livestock Guardians, used to own Great Pyrenees. Had a lot of goats at the time. He took great care of them.
Have a good look around, lots of forums with fun folks and good information to be found here.
Hope you do get your blue eggs!

Hi Kathryn. Let's just say, some LGD's are better at their job than others. Hopefully, in a real predator situation, your dog will surprise you, and protect your chickens. Glad you decided to join us.
