Hello!

First time chicken mom here: I got 6 days-old chicks for Mother's day. Now we're at our 4th week, the coop is delivered, and we're just waiting (to get them out of my house)! The kids picked out 4 girls - an olive egger, a welbar, and 2 black sex links - and 2 lavender ameraucanas which we were told could be either boys or girls. I greatly suspect tho that we had a mix up, because one of the sex links is feathering in barred. Either way "Fluffy" will be loved (if not by our neighbors).

Hello and welcome to BYC. You can post pics here - https://www.backyardchickens.com/forums/what-breed-or-gender-is-this.15/

On this link you'll find lots of information on almost every aspect of keeping birds - from coop building ideas, to incubating eggs - https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/

There’s a link on the page above to the Learning Centre - it’s a great resource. If you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

Each week, various topics are discussed, which can also be a great resource - https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/topic-of-the-week-thread-archive

Welcome to the group. Sounds like a good mix of breeds. You are lucky you can keep the roo, hopefully he won't drive the neighbors crazy. This is a great site for info. Here's your first tip, chicken math! You're going to need more hens for that roo. (yes, we are all enablers here, lol )

Good thing we ended up with a big coop! I have a feeling we're going to keep multiplying :)

Welcome to Backyard Chickens!:frow Glad you joined the flock! BYC is a very helpful and informative site! Sounds like you will have a colorful egg variety if most of them turn out to be females. If your black sexlink is feathering in barred then he is a cockerel. Hope you enjoy BYC as much as we do!
