I am new to this group (but have read some threads!) so I thought I would introduce myself. My husband and I live in the city but have an acre that sits against a ravine that has a steep embankment to a creek that flows to the Puget Sound. My husband works construction and his company was building a house for the local Co-op. It was baby chick season and he came home with 3 New Hampshire reds. I was immediately in love and added an Ameraucana. That was 5 years ago. I have loved, lost and replaced birds in my flock. I have one of my originals, raised 3 others (Buff Orpington, Australorp, & Ameraucana) and rescued 3 (Buff Orpington, Australorp & Wyandotte) which brings me a total of 7 chickens. Last year I convinced my husband to let me get 2 female ducks. I got Cayugas, fresh from the breeder, hours old and sexed....but ended up with a Drake. Since I had no intentions of having a male duck, I did no research. He imprinted on me and lets me handle him a lot but now he goes after one of my rescue girls. I was worried I would have to re-home him but I figured out to let everyone free-range on a schedule. I love my little city farm!
