Hi
I live in Cental Scotland and have 3 dogs, a cat, 6 hens and 5 ducks. I've had poultry for over 25 years, and they are free range but live in a converted brick garrage with inside and outside runs.

I had 6 ducks till last weekend when my son found one of the younger girls dead. She had been attacked and my first thought was rats, although it did occur to me oen of my drakes might have done it. I didn't examine the body too closely but it looked pretty bad along her back and rear end.
Unfortunately, on Tuesday morning I found the other youngster crawling towards me with wounds on the back too. I managed to clean her and tend to the wounds and they are healing well, she is bright, and is eating and driniking a little, but she cannot control the leg that was trailing when i found her. It doesn't seem broken as when I put it under her she can stand unaided for quite a long time.

When she tries to move forward she can't move that leg and sits down with it splayed behind her.

I am going to fill the bath with warm water to see if that helps, but wondered if anyone had any other thoughts on it.
Thanks for reading

Hello and welcome to BYC.
So sorry to hear about your duck. Do you think that the injuries to the back could have pinched a nerve in the spine affecting that leg? Provided they aren't severed, nerves can heal. It just takes a very long time.
Yes I think that may be the reason for her not having use of the leg because she can stand if I take it forward and stand her up. I'll continue with water therapy as long as necessary provided she eats, which she isn't doing much of at present. Shock maybe. Thanks for your help
