Hello

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
I'm quite partial to leghorns and they would do well in your climate.
Ahhh Debie! A gal after my own heart. I love the legorn. Always one of my best, more friendly birds in the yard!

Welcome!

Our quietest breeds are our Easter Eggers and Barred Rocks. As in, I’ve never experienced them singing the egg song ever...either quiet or a few clucks, whereas some of our others are quite noisy laying eggs and generally opinionated.

Our female dark brown Leghorns were very noisy and the male Leghorns annoyingly so. Neighbor of ours has white Leghorns which are noisy when laying eggs.

FWIW, you can purchase started pullets from a hatchery. They cost more, but they will be guarenteed female, and will be close to Point of Lay (POL), so eggs sooner. In addition, you won’t have to buy baby chick stuff (heat source, feed and waterers, chick crumble, etc) this year.

Good luck!
