I’ve already asked a question, but today I had a moment to introduce myself. I am new to chickens, though I’ve wanted them for years (we have lived on 10 acres for three and a half years... it was more than time to get with the program). We had a friend give us 8 hens (5 Rhode Island Reds, 1 Buff Orpinton, and 2 Silkes.) I think at some point I would be up for getting more or getting a rooster and trying to hatch some. We have 5 daughters and homeschool the 4 youngest. We also have 3 dogs, a cat, and a fish... so our life is pretty busy. The chickens seem to be fitting in well to the chaos, especially now that they come when called.
I think one of the template questions asked what is the best thing about chickens? I’d say the eggs, of course. But- here lately I think it’s really cute how they sunbathe in the afternoon. All sprawled out but stay in a group. Then they chatter to each other... it’s like a bunch of women sitting by the pool.
And I’m glad to be here. You all were sooo helpful with training the chickens to come when called. I was getting very stressed that my kids were freaking out so bad every time we left the house and the chickens weren’t all in the coop.
