Thought I would say hello since I am new to the site. I have 30 Speckled Sussex chickens, 28 pullets & 2 cockerels. I chose the Speckled Sussex breed because of their "camouflage" looking feathering. In rural Alabama we have a variety of raptors large and small. I believed the camouflaged feathering would help the chickens as they graze.
We also have 150 commercial meat goats, one donkey, a livestock guardian dog and barn cats. Everyone seems to get along. The adult goats ignore the chickens, the kids like to play with them. The donkey, Beth, and the LG dog, Freddie, watches over everyone.
