Hello!

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Did you process your meat birds yourself?

Thank you! Yes, I did (my lovely neighbors showed me how)- it wasn’t as bad as I expected, and definitely rewarding to know that we are eating chicken that was raised with love, cuddles, and under healthy conditions. :)

I so want to do this but I've never killed an animal. I've been getting better about watching the "how-to" videos. I can almost get to the point where they do the deed but not yet! I can't get past their little faces and that they are talking when you are about to kill them. But it is absolutely the best way to raise meat. They have very good lives up until the end and it isn't like they know what is about to happen. Kudos to you!

Welcome! I have not Yet processed anything I have raised. I watched my father when I was a child, and I process the meat we hunt. I have given demonstrations to long time hunters that have never done it for themselves. Farm to table or camp to table, I want my want my grandchild to honor and respect the animals that provide for us. She knows that food in a store with a sticker does not magically appear; her hard work matters. She makes the world a better place for each animal she raises and every plant she nurtures. I am grateful to you and the others that I can show her how to be proud of the choices she will make in life. Thank you!
