(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am new-ish. I have not yet kept my own chickens, but I have spent plenty of time on farms helping family members with them, and caring for chickens when the owners go on vacation etc.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
None, but hoping to start up a small flock in a year or so. Aiming for ~4 hens, definitely no more than 6.
(3) What breeds do you have?
I'm hoping to get at least one easter egger or ameraucana, a buff orpington, and I'm less picky about the rest.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Free-range eggs, ethically raised animals for meat/eggs, and I just really enjoy chickens and birds in general.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I'm a wildlife artist, a writer, and a falconer.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
Currently I work in 3D art/animation. Planning to quit and paint/do my own art full time. Husband is a pilot. We are both practicing falconers, so we often have at least one hawk or falcon around.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
Finally decided to join, since we're buying our first home, and I should be able to have a few hens. I'm hoping to learn more about the ins and outs of backyard chickens, especially coop building (I'm a DIYer).
