Hi there! I am new to this site. I rescued two cross chickens in October. There are doing well and one turned out to be a rooster. The hen laid an egg today. She is five months old. She did not have more than 10 hours of daylight.
Hello and welcome to BYC! Glad you joined.
Pullets (and hens) will lay with less than the 'optimal' hours of daylight.
Congratulations on your first egg! It's always exciting to get eggs from new layers.
Hi! Welcome to BYC! At 5 months the cockerel may get a little hormonal. I've had to separate my two 4 1/2 mo old cockerels from all the hens and pullets, until they get through this crazy stage. Are you going to keep the cockerel?
