New to BYC... We got out first 5 chicks last April for a 4H project for the kids. My husband and son built a great little coop for them. And about 5 months later got 16 more. Chicken addiction hits quick!! šŸ˜‚. They had to build another, bigger coop!
I went to the local feed store to pick up 5 more chicks several weeks ago and left with 9. Oops!

We have Golden Comets, Barred Rock, Polish, Asian, Golden Laced Wyandotte, and Speckled Wyandotte hens. We have 3 roosters - Speckled and Columbian Wyandotte, and one Polish. In the new batch of chicks, Olive Eggers and Easter Eggers.
We did lose 3 hens over the winter to predators - the downside to free roaming. So all told we have 27!?
I love our girls (and guys.... Though I'm realizing I'd much prefer all girls). I absolutely love having chickens and all it entails- they are by far the coolest animals! AND they give us eggs to eat, so it's a win win ;) our comets are the friendliest, likely because we started with those 5 originally and they got the most hands-on attention. But they all have their own unique personalities and quirks.
We also have 3 skilled mousers and a loyal canine chicken guardian roaming the land.
