Welcome to BYC. My friend has had silkies for many years, and then added seramas. It turns out both breeds have no resistance to Mareks. She ended up losing her last 3 birds to that.
They died a day apart. BTW they were house chickens all their lives but, she allowed the silkie outside because it didn't fly. Silkie brought the disease inside with it.

Yes, it was very sad. My friend never got anymore chickens after that. I have to say that was a good thing. I got on BYC because she didn't have a computer. But all the good advice I read to her from BYC, she refused to follow. She thought she knew best.

Some time later she admitted to me the other chickens she had years ago, never lived very long either. She strictly fed them human food - nothing that was developed for chickens.
