Hi, new here and following instructions like a good bird. I'll answer the questions:
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I got some chickens at the beginning of the pandemic to have something to do and entertain the little ones. I never had chicken myself but my grandparents used to have chicken and my sister and uncle also do, so I was not fully new to the experience.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I have 3.
(3) What breeds do you have?
I am not sure, they just sell them as "poule pondeuse", so laying chicken, I think it is a mixed industrial laying chicken. Brown.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
The DIY part of it is fun (I built a chicken run and i am going to build a coop). Also just looking at them and feeding them some worms from time to time.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I also make old music (renaissance and baroque) and more related to chickens, I also keep ants (yes ants).
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I am happily married to a great woman, have a 4 year old and a 9 month old, we have a dog, a bird, ants and now chickens.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I had snooped around to build my run and to learn a bit, I joined now because I found another person from my area (Luxembourg) and I have been struggling to find chicken stuff around here, so I thought it was a good chance to find some local network.
