(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Very new to keeping them! Just ordered my first chicks in December
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
0! They'll be hatching at the end of June Town ordinances say no more than 5 per residence.
(3) What breeds do you have?
We went with blue ameraucana; gorgeous birds with stunning eggs! Also fairly cold-hardy, which is nice up here.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Sustainability. And also just having pet chickens.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Fishkeeping, sewing, hiking, collecting fossils.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We have entirely too many pets. And I love it. Dog, two cats, rabbit, dart frog, two mourning geckos, seahorses, isopods, innumerable fish and shrimp, four snakes, and a tarantula. I work as a funeral director and spend all of my off-time at home with my husband and the pets. We decided to add chickens to the list as well because I've missed keeping birds and have been looking into a small flock for several years now.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I'm a long-time lurker and have come across this forum dozens of times in my research. Finally decided to join since my husband greenlit the order for the chicks this summer!
