Hello I am Leah from Utah! I am new to chickens and my first set (5) was some baby polish hens and shortly after, a rescue Easter egger (who miraculously changed egg colors in my care). I got all 6 in the month of June this year! I got 2 more actual laying easter eggers in July and realized my rescue was an olive egger! I had two polish hens fall over and realized one may not recover from whatever is ailing her and adopted 4 black silkies (4 weeks old).
I think it’s very therapeutic to watch them all run around and see their different personalities shine. I have enjoyed having fresh eggs and haven’t reacted like I do to store bought eggs either!
My other hobbies include knitting, crocheting, woodworking and fixing cars. I have an 11 year old rescued shiba, an 11 month old rescued kitten, 1 rescued Guinea pig, 2 miracle bunnies and some crazy fish! I have two awesome teen/tweenage boys who help keep all the pets happy and healthy and a husband who supports me and my bleeding heart for helping animals!

I found this website via Google with all my many, MANY searches for answers with my new chicken questions. I look forward to connecting with other people and continuing to learn!

Hiya, Leah, and welcome to BYC! :frow Thanks for sharing the pictures!

Sorry about the Polish. Any other symptoms? If I think any mine are off at all, they all get Poultry Cell. No idea if that helps the ailing one, but vitamins are always good. ☺️
I do give them hydrahen, but I seen one wobble and then isolated her. It’s only her foot and she’s fairly mobile but the foot is closed and cannot be used. I’ve seen no sores and none have issues otherwise. I brought the second one in the next day (which is why I scanned all birds for bumble foot and bugs) but she tried killing over twice and her whole leg got lame and inflamed like it was broken. I’m thinking she may have gout (they’re a little over 3 months old) and I have been closely monitoring and keeping them hydrated and fed. I do not have a vet that will look at chickens that I have found so this website may be my saving Grace! Thank you!
