Hello all - New to BYC and am wondering about using Ag lime (aka Barn Lime) in my 30x20 ft chicken yard to control smell. How much is recommended, and how often to apply? Thanks!!

Hello and Welcome to BYC. Glad that you joined this poultry loving community. I know what the lime is but have never needed to apply it. I've let my chickens out on grass enough that they were spread out and not smelling a run up.

I believe Lime can be hazardous to their lungs and burn their feet. You might want to switch to something like Stall Dry or some sort of absorbent bedding like shavings or pellets. A dry run shouldn't smell. Do you have a roof over your run? Do you have litter in your run like dry wood chips or dry organic matter? How many birds are you keeping and how many square feet in the run? All of that's going to play a role in odor control.
