A bit of a strange question I suppose but could you check them for strong eyeshine? A guy on YouTube called FloridaBullfrog showed how his game mix birds have it along with a crepuscular wake/sleep cycle in some.

I don't really want to get old english or standard gamefowl if I can help it because of their smaller stature so I'm looking at other game varieties for the same strong eyeshine and crepuscular activity.

You want birds that are active at dusk/night. Judged on eye type. That the Florida guy mentioned his folw have?
He raising owls?
Most birds I seen are active at night also when the lights turned on.

As far as nocturnal birds, I'm sure there were strains that may of hunted bugs at night naturally in the wild. I have had pure jungle fowl, they sleep at night just like the rest.

----------

On another note if tour referring to obstructions in the eye, infectio s, bacteria. I believe the birds have better eyes in open air pens. (If not better in free ranging.)

Cattle in feedlots all got sick alot with bacteria infections, just alot of dust , dirt. If tour vird pens are the same. Your fowl will suffer. Move tour pens @6am, then again at 6pm. Fresh water/feed filled again in am/pm also. 2xs a day. Will give you good strong birds.
---------------

Only time I saw a rooster willingly crow in the dark. Is when he saw the fridge light threw the window @2am. That will set the yard off one rooster at a time.

Driving home in the yard at night. Headlights off the motorcycle,/vat/truck will get the yard crowing like it's morning also. Yard check with a flashlight also at 9pm...

Only other thing I could think your referring to is something similar to the thing the pigeon breeders look for in the actual eye patern. There pedigrees literally come with eye photos on there papers for these noted racers.

See if you can find the video link. I will check it out. He has quite a few videos. I have seen a few of them before.

There used to be a lad named ChknWing that raise his on "farm walks" , true old schooler. He would drop his fowl off at the beef farms to run around all year grow strong like the wild birds. Then he would gather them up at winter back to his yard. Select his breeders.

Barn tafters he had to climb at night were 30ft in the air for tractors to enter barns, lift there buckets also stack hay/straw. Move out manure from other barns they were in also. That's where these ones roosted. Where the wild pigeons would, at the top.

See if you can grab an example of the , sometimes there's mix up with differences of terms used to describe things. Most folks thing there nocturnal cause there all crowing at night. (Yard light on, coop light on, house porch light on still, folks walking with flashlights , bright phones. Fridge door threw windows.. so its artificial.

Other throw birds in keeps, using keep stalls. Turning them nocturnal (I believe). Changing sleep patterns, by alternating work routine, sleep, feed routines. For the shows at night. Some areas don't do shows in the day, the temperatures are to extreme. Some spots aren't an easy place to live they adapt.

🇺🇸 they can train gamefowl diffrent times of the year then 🇨🇦 , same with 🇩🇴 along with the philippian islands. All have there own area health issues due to climate also. That vary from others.

When raised in the keep stalls they change the birds schedual. That's all. Cause there indoors. They get light when it's on, they get dark when it's off. There fed at timed intervals at measured amounts.

Same way they train folks in prisons. Human keep stalls. Active at night. Due to relaxed atmosphere in the day times.
Humans have played/trained worker humans for centuries. Changing a animals routine falls under same categories for training methods. I believe.

Here's one of his hens. They forage very early in the morning or later evening which is what crepuscular means.
