We are new to raising chickens - we just got 12 pullets on March 3. They were about 4 days old when we took them home. SO cute! I would love to hear about other people's experiences raising chickens. We are building an enclosure for their coop right now so they can move outside. It has been so fun having them.

Congrats on your new chicks and welcome to BYC! What breeds did you get?
This forum is packed full of the experiences of others.
You'll have fun reading through the posts and gain some really useful tips along the line.

Hi and welcome to BYC from northern Michigan

We have 5 "red' chicks, 6 "yellow" chicks and 1 white plymouth rock, all pullets. I guess Tractor Supply didn't know for certain what kind the chicks were, so we think we have Rhode Island Reds or New Hampshire Reds, Yellow Sex Link and/or Buff Rocks. They are all adorable and have their own personalities. I love watching them. We had to move the chicks to their coop a week ago when they kept escaping the brooder area in the basement bathroom. We let them outside during the day in the chicken tractor my husband built. They love it! We are still trying to finish the enclosure we are building around the chicken coop. It is taking longer than we have daylight for each day, after my husband comes home from work. It is kind of big too, 20x24 feet and 8 feet tall. I think we must be crazy, but I love our chickens!

You aren't crazy alone....I am too. I love my chickens way too much. Good luck with your chicks and coop and WELCOME. Glad you joined us
