Hello!

Thanks so much for the warm welcome, everyone....flewdacoop, I will definitely do that, thank you! I hope I get to keep my little Sally!

Absolutely...double-check. (You might even find the answer here!) As flewdacoop mentioned, most townships don't allow roosters, but permit a small number of hens. Some towns, don't have specific laws regarding chickens at all, so you'll get a different answer everytime you call them....Good luck - hope this works out for you and Sally

Our little Sally is doing so much better after her ordeal on the freeway. What a difference a week makes! I found out yesterday that she loves hard boiled egg!

I found out from a neighbor on the next street up (who has two hens), that when they got their chickens last year that they were told "you have to have 5 acres to keep a rooster" but they said nothing about a hen! So we have decided that we're just going to go for it. Our backyard is fairly secluded and Sally is very quiet.

Now we have to go about finding her a friend!

I will try all of those, thank you!

My husband is working on her enclosure as I type, and this morning we ordered a Golden Buff pullet from Meyer Hatchery, we're going to pick her up next Saturday, so Sally will have a pal. Everything is falling into place!

Just be prepared...I probably won't be "love at first sight". The girls might take a little while to work out their pecking order. I've introduced new pullets, twice. Each time it took about a week for everyone to get accustomed to one another. Now they all get along famously and are a riot to watch together.

I figured it would take them awhile to work things out, and I'll get a few more grey hairs, lol! I went to get some things at the mill this morning and the gentleman there said that if it was him, he'd order another to make it three. He said he thought that would work better than the two, so maybe we will. I guess if I'm caring for them daily anyway, three can't be that much more difficult than two!
