My name is Chris Brown and I am currently living in Kentucky, but I am originally from Southern Illinois. Been wanting to try my hand at chickens for a while now...and finally talked the wife into it this year! My Dad used to raise exotic breed chickens, but gave it up before I was old enough to learn anything. I wanted something different then the usual Rhode Island reds or any of the breeds you typically find at Tractor Supply or Rural King, so I did some looking around and found some different breeds for my first flock. Ended up with: two cornish rocks, two white opingtons (two week olds), two speckled sussex (two week olds) and two of what I like to call "chicken surprise"....the feed store said they are a "rare breed mix" and they didn't really know which ones they were...anything from wyandottes to phoenixs. Really looking forward to seeing them grow and seeing what the surprise birds turn out to be.
