My name is Andrea and my first chicks are 8 weeks old. I absolutely love them! I have learned so much and they are so entertaining. I am just thrilled to have chickens, I have wanted them for years but never took the plunge. Right after Christmas we moved into a house that already had a chicken coop!! The rest is history! I have 9 chickens and I got lucky because I only ended up with 1 rooster. I have 2 americanas, 3 red sex link, 3 barred rock, and a pure white one that I got a couple weeks after the first bunch but I'm not sure what breed she is. Yesterday I made a new waterer with nipple waterers and a new feeder because they have grown out of their little brooder ones. I have also used limbs to make roosting poles in to coop.

LOVE them!!

:welcome Glad to have you here and happy to hear that you are enjoying your chicks! You could post some pictures of your white chick and see if any of us know the breed. :)

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Sounds like you have a pretty little flock! They are really entertaining, you never get tired or Chicken Television, just can't stop watching.
If you are interested in trying to figure out what your little white chicken is you could post her picture in the What Breed or Gender Is This forum https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/15/what-breed-or-gender-is-this
And, great place to read up on all aspects of chicken keeping is the BYC Learning Center https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

Thank so much! I sure will post pics tomorrow! I am a little worried because I introduced the nipple waterers to them today and did all the things the wonderful folks here at BYC suggested to do (take away any other water, show them where it is, tap on it, etc.) and they still don't seem to get it. Will they be ok? If they are desperate enough for water do you thunk the will figure it out?

It is so great to have a place to talk about my chickens with people that are as excited about them as I am. I think my husband gets a little tired of hearing about who is who and what the chickens are up to today! LOL!

Chickens don't like change and can be stubborn, so often they'll have to get thirsty before they start using it. If one or two of them start usually the rest will follow right along. Would just keep doing what you were doing with showing them etc, putting a treat something they like to eat on the nipple to get them to peck at it sometimes works.

Welcome to BYC!

I don't use nipple waterers, so I can't help you with this one. But I am sure they will figure it out eventually. Good luck with your flock and if you have any other questions, that is what we are here for. Welcome to our flock!

We're glad to have you. I've used nipple waterers, and it can take a few days for them to figure them out. But, mine always do it eventually!
