Hello

Welcome to BYC! Hens will only sit on the eggs if they become broody. You will know when that happens when the hen sits on the nest and puffs up her feathers and growls at you when you try to take them.

Silkies are generally known to go broody and often people keep them for just that reason.
Since you already have a silkie rooster, why not get a few silkie hens, so he has his own harem.

No i have never put golf balls in the nest and i have one silkies hen. My husband separated my two silkies yesterday from the rest of the flock, so hopefully she will start sitting on her own!!!

Another question....i set 12 eggs on Monday, what if i wanted to set more eggs today, how would that work, or would it not work??? Please help i don't want to kill any babies!!!
