Finally somewhere I can talk chicken!! I'm based in the West Midlands, England.

I have a number of different chickens in our flock. I have 2 light Sussex x bantam cockerels, 1 light Sussex x bantam pullet, 3 cream legbars, 2 warrens.. Stupidly went to auction on my day off and came home with 5 buff Sussex point of lay birds and I made a bid on a box of chicks. All I heard was "7 weeks old 6 chicks"... They didn't sell per bird so bidding started at 50p a box. I outbid a meat man and came home with 6 exchequer leghorns chicks for £1.50. Poor little sods.

Finally have somewhere to share chicken enthusiasm!

We're glad to have you. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Good luck with your flock!

Welcome to BYC! Glad you decided to join us. You have a nice, mixed flock. Warrens is one of many labels under which some hatcheries market their Red Sex Links, which are produced by crossing a red gene rooster with a silver gene hen. The resulting offspring can be sexed by color at hatching (male chicks are whitish, female chicks are reddish) and they are egg laying machines, outlaying either parent breed. It's one of the interesting quirks of hybridization. You should get loads of eggs from those two ladies. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Cheers.

I'm sure the box of chicks will do much, much better at your place then if the meat guy took them home. Thank goodness you bid and won. Hope they don't turn out to be all cockerels. Welcome to Backyard Chickens.
