Hello! I'm new to BYC and looking for some advice on a sick chicken. We have three rescue chickens, an Isa, a leghorn cross and a little blue Arucana. The little Arucana is at least 9 months old, is very light (just over 500g) and has recently started looking depressed, droopy wings, has poor balance, runny poos and keeps on trying to snuggle underneath the bigger birds. She has never laid. I have taken her to the vet and they subscribed antibiotics. I have also been hand feeding her mealy grubs separate to the other birds to make sure she's eating. It has just started to get cool here in Sydney (sub 10 degrees C overnight). I have tried to bring her inside in the warm but she seems to pine for her friends. The other chickens are much bigger than her, but don't seem to bully her too much, apart from when she tried to wriggle underneath them. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Did the vet say what he was treating her for? Has she ever laid any eggs? If you post in the ER section please give as much detail as possible. I hope someone will be able to diagnosis her and recommend treatment. Do you think the other hens have been keeping her away from the feed/water.? You could set out another feeder and water dish elsewhere so she can eat safely.

Thanks for the advice. I have just posted in the emergency section. Sadly my vet had know idea what was wrong with her. I don't think he knows much about chickens though. Fingers crossed someone in the lovely community will have some ideas.

Best wishes for your bird, she's a lovely one. I hope you can get some answers on the emergencies forum.

Good luck to you and welcome to BYC!
