I've had this happen before...and it seriously is like the chick is glued in there....you do end up having to help

My amateur guess is that the chick somehow punctured the yolk sack and some of it kind of oozes up and out. It's rare...and out of all the chicks I've hatched, I've only seen a couple with it.

I agree that it is a yolk sac thing...the oozy bubbles harden into "varnish". I've had this happen with a few chicks. I think it also may be due to a high humidity...but...all my other chicks this hatch were fine. I only had one that was cemented in. Weird....

Weird. I have never heard of that happening. Is that very common?
