my 7 week old buff orpington hen isn't eating or drinking. she stays all puffed up and eyes closed. she is pooping all white and clear. I started her on corid 4 days ago. she did poop a running brown stinky poop this morning but then later pooped all white again. her crop is empty. I dont know what to do or what is going on and I dont have the money to take her to the vet, if i could even find a vet around here that sees chickens. any one have any advice?

Welcome to the site. I’m really sorry to hear about your chicken not feeling well. Poor girl.

What does her diet consist of? Is anyone else in the flock feeling ill? Does she have any discharge from her eyes, ears or mouth? Any lesions in her mouth? Also give her a really good once over for mites and lice if you haven’t already. Has she been dewormed?

Going to tag the educators for advice @Wyorp Rock @azygous @Eggcessive

thank you for your reply. she was eating chick starter feed and also eating some grass in the coop area. now she's not eating much at all. I have 8 others and no one else is showing any signs of illness. no discharge from mouth ears or nose. I did notice that she has bruising on her beak when she first started acting ill. I dont know how to get her to open her mouth so I can see inside of it to check for lesions and how do I know if she has mites or lice ? are they big enough to see? also I noticed that her vent is pulsating i dont know if that's normal or not but its been doing that for like 4 days now

the photos I have attached you can kinda see the purplish bruising on her beak.

also she hasn't been dewormed. she is on the last day of corid treatment.

I did notice that bruise, you should very thoroughly check her over for any other injuries. Feathers hide things very well, so really look well under her feathers if you can. That is where you will be looking for lice and mites, too. Check at the base of feather shafts for lice eggs, they will be white and tiny and look like a lot of dandruff piled up

lice and mites themselves like to hide in warm spots like under wings. You might be able to see them best around the vent at night.

Can you try offering her some wetted down chicken feed made into a mash, or some scrambled egg and see if she’ll eat that? How about some water with electrolytes and a tich of sugar?

Maybe hold off on checking her mouth until you see she has no other injuries near her mouth since her beak is bruised. It will probably be tough to get a look at, but to actually look inside her mouth you may have to gently insert a finger at the back corner of her beak. Usually you can gently tug down on their wattles and look inside their mouth, but she doesn’t have wattles yet.

The educators may come in with some better advice here soon.

How did you mix the Corid? I would use 2 tsp of the liquid or 1.5 tsp of the powder per gallon of water for 5-7 days. Did you also give a drench of undiluted Corid 0.1 ml per pound daily? What. Are the droppings any more solid? Is she eating and drinking?

I mixed 10ml to 1 gal of water for 5 days. I did not give it to her as a drench. She did poop once yesterday morning and it was brown and runny and quiet smelly..... I thought maybe she was getting better but then about 3 hours later she pooped straight white liquid again. she won't eat anything and she doesn't really drink much. im getting about maybe 1ml down her with a syringe every couple of hours or so. her crop is empty and she getting pretty weak. she been like this for about 7 days or so now. 😔

im not seeing any other injuries and I checked for lice and mites too and im not seeing anything like the pictures you sent. I've tried giving her wet chick feed and scrambled eggs amd she dont have any interest. I am sryinge feeding her some water with a little sugar today since she has finally finished her corid treatment today.

You can give the Corid for 7 days, and you can reduce the dosage to 1/2 tsp per gallon for 5 days more if you want to. And you could do the drench too. Adding Corid water to a small amount of feed will also work. If you do not continue Corid longer, I would give some vitamins and probiotics for a few days. Let us know how the chick gets along.
