Okay so this just happened. As I’m sitting on the deck, My Splash Orpington just laid an egg On the deck in front of me and it sort of fell out and bounced. Is this really bad?!??? She’s laid before but she’s a new layer (maybe only been laying a couple of days). Smallish sized egg. I just cut it open and there is a yolk in it. My chickens have oyster shell and are in layer feed.

When I first read the title I thought maybe a lash egg, but I don’t think that’s it, it looks and sounds and IS a soft shelled egg. There are two reasons for this, and don’t worry it’s completely normal! Your girl is a new layer so her body is still learning how to make eggs, hence her laying a soft shelled or “shelless” egg. No worries, perfectly normal and you might see more, other eggs you’ll see are, super tiny “fairy” eggs, And double Yorkers, don’t worry this is all normal for a new layer 👍
